Emre AKIN Prof.Dr. Mersin University, Civil Engineering Department
Prof. Dr. Emre Akın is a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering, Division of Mechanics, at the Faculty of Engineering, Mersin University. He completed his high school education at İçel Anatolian High School in 1996 and received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Çukurova University in 2001. He obtained his Integrated Ph.D. degree from the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2011, with a doctoral dissertation focused on the strengthening of reinforced concrete frames using carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. As part of his doctoral studies, he conducted research as a visiting researcher at the University of Adelaide, Australia, between 2009 and 2010.
Between 2002 and 2011, Dr. Akın served as a research assistant at Middle East Technical University, followed by a research assistant position at Selçuk University from 2012 to 2014. From 2014 to 2021, he served at Adnan Menderes University, first as an Assistant Professor and subsequently as an Associate Professor. Throughout his academic career, he has undertaken various administrative responsibilities, including serving as Head of Department, Head of Division, and Erasmus Coordinator. In addition, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Mersin University from May 2023 until October 11, 2024.
His primary research interests include the seismic behavior and assessment of reinforced concrete structures, strengthening of existing structures using innovative materials, and the enhancement of the performance of conventional strengthening techniques. With numerous scientific publications in reputable national and international journals, Prof. Dr. Akın continues to conduct research projects in his areas of expertise and supervise graduate theses.
